Like some other Soul originals I came to this beautiful ballad in a back to front way after hearing the U Roy Dee Jay cover of the Alton Ellis Rock Steady version, then finding out it was a Johnnie Taylor original. It was his first release in Great Britain which had been somewhat overlooked on its British debut and although he had recorded for Sar, Derby, and had three previous releases for Stax he was, at the time, all but unknown in the UK.
