DOGGIN' ME AROUND * ALBERT WASHINGTON * PRESIDENT 137 * UK

Not well known as a Soul label the Cincinnati based Fraternity label had about 30 releases in the 1960s which are of interest to the Soul music fan; Doggin' Me Around (# 982) was the first of seven records, not counting the reissue of  Tellin' All Your Friends, that Albert Washington had released on the imprint. It is a soul song directly out of the Blues tradition, something of a 'Soul Moan' if I can put it like that. It's records like this,  more of a personal statement than the more catchy teenage lament type of hard luck love song, that are invariably destined to have little or no widespread commercial appeal, which is exactly what this and other records by Albert Washington was absent of, in this country at least, consequently he has become one of those names, despite having made many excellent recordings, destined to be an obscure name in the popular narratives of 20th century Pop music.
