Born in Selma Alabama1939 Oscar Toney Jr. started out singing gospel in church and high school with a group he called the Sensational Melodies of Joy, after this he formed the Searchers with his brothers Roosevelt Toney and Willie James Toney, their debut in 1960 was; Yvonne / Little Wanda, released on Mac 351.

 The above was his first record for the Bell label, released in the US in April 1967, and in the UK on the 23rd of June that year. For Your Precious Love was originally recorded by Jerry Butler and The Impressions without the talking intro that was made popular by Oscar Tony Jr. and Linda Jones. The South African group The Flames also cut it with the talking intro (see below).
