Song writer and vocalist Sammy Campbell a.k.a Tyrone Ashley, had previously sang with The Del-Larks, a group he formed by his brother David in high school in the late 1950s. Sammy Campbell decided to change his name to Tyrone Ashley in the hope of better success when he recorded Let Me Be Your Man, a song he wrote during the time he lived in an apartment above a girl he fancied. Recorded with The Funky Music Machine Let Me Be Your Man was to be his biggest commercial success reaching #20 on the Billboard R&B charts.
