If in 1961 the Duke Of Earl was one of the records that ushered in the bright, young, brave and optimistic wave of working class youth movement calling themselves Modernist's representing the penultimate push of modernism by the British youth for a better self determined future. Then, due to a myriad of reasons from: Viet Nam in the East, the death of Martin Luther King in America, to the failure of another Labor Government in Britain, by 1969 that particular push was over and what were left of the British working class youth still unmarried (capitulated) was over. The above record, originally written and recorded by Betty Swan, was made very much in the mid 1960s Soul style favored by the Mods, yet was one of a fast dwindling number, many more of which would continue to be recorded but because of commercial reasons would remain at best obscure.
