STRAIN ON MY HEART * ROSCOE SHELTON * SIMS 217 * USA

Like many Soul singers Roscoe Shelton started out singing Gospel in the late 1940s, firstly with The Fireside Gospel Singers, then with The Fairfield Four; following a stint in the army in 1953 he joined The Skylarks (a spin off from The Fairfield Four). His first solo, and secular, song was for Excello in 1958, he had a total of seven singles and one album released for the label. After leaving Excello in 1961 he had one release on Valdot and two on Battle before signing with Sims Records; the powerful Soul ballad Strain On My Heart was his third of five fort the label.

Strain On My Heart was Roscoe Shelton's only British release on Sue 354.
