TRUE FINE LOVIN' * BILLY STUART * CHESS 1835 * USA

Billy Stewart was born March 24, 1937, and sadly on January 17, 1970, Billy and three of his band members were killed in a fatal car accident.  It is Bo Diddley who is credited with discovering him and he became part of Bo's touring band, while with them he recorded a song entitled Billy's Blues for Chess in 1956.  In 1957 he recorded Billy's Heartache and Baby, You Are My Only Love for the Okeh label, with a group called the Marquees featuring Marvin Gaye. He returned to Chess' in the early 1960s and with A&R man Billy Davis a songwriting-producer partnership was born. True Fine Lovin was written by the man himself, and, judging by his songs, Billy never had much luck in love, still he made some fine records.
