1962
YIELD NOT TO TEMPTATION * BOBBY BLAND * VOCALION 9232 * UK
Released on Duke 352 in 1962, it wasn't released until may 1965 in Britain and although this period of his career was reasonably well covered by the Vogue/Vocalion label he never seemed to burst through to the wider public consciousness. One possible explanation is that his style of R&B was to earthy, too raw, with a full fat brassy sound that packs a punch, the songs themselves were often uncompromising and emotionally honest; big man music. It's hard to belive that by the late 1960s, after so many 1st class records, he was in serious financial difficulties and had resorted to the bottle, it makes one wonder what have you got to do in this life to get the type of money some folks have coming out of their fat gobs.
