YOU'VE GOT MY MIND MESSED UP * JAMES CARR * STATESIDE 507 * UK
James Carr had fourteen singles released on the Goldwax label between 1964 and 1969, the above was his fourth but his first in the UK. You've Got My Mind Messed Up came out in the summer of 1966 and immediately established his name with those Soul fans who had not heard of him previously. A dark and disturbing song this kind of deep introspective Soul was not to everybody's taste and consequently James Carr never became a well known name until his up-tempo recording of Freedom Train became popular on the night club dance floors in 1969.
