The Jarmels were formed in Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A. The group comprised of: Nathamel Ruff (b. 1939 d.1990's) Ray Smith (b. 1941) Paul Burnett (b. 1942 d. Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A. 23rd March 2001) Earl Christian (b. 1940 d.1960's) and Tom Eldridge (b. 1941 d. 19th June 2000)
Recorded in New York and written by Bert Burns, with more than a nod to The Drifters sound, the up tempo (dancable) A Little Bit Of Soap was The Jarmels biggest hit. The song went on to be covered many times - most successfully by the Asian group Cliff Foenander and The Fabulous Echoes when it spent 25 weeks at number one in South East Asia during 1963 - The Exciters were one of the first American groups to revive the song when they released their cover in 1965 (see below).
