ASK THE LONELY * FOUR TOPS * MOTOWN 1073 * USA

Ask The Lonely was the first Motown release in 1965, an exquisite, heart-rending and poignant ballad with a 'big' sound on which the fabulous Andantes give an extra boost. The track was taken from the eponymous album by the Four Tops, their first, which was also released in January 1965. Written by Mickey Stevenson and Ivy Jo Hunter it was to be the groups second biggest seller at Motown scoring  24 pop and number 9 R&B, Ask The Lonely was released in the UK on the then newly launched British Tamla Motown label (see below).

Ask The Lonely  was also covered beautifully by Barbara Lewis released on Enterprise 9027.
