The Highway QC's have been singing Gospel since 1945 and can boast a star studded cannon of Soul singers who have sung with the group, including Sam Cooke, Lou Rawls and Johnnie Taylor. They signed with Vee Jay in 1955 when Johnnie Taylor was singing lead, it was Spencer Taylor (no relation) who succeeded Johnnie Taylor as lead after Johnnie Taylor left in 1957 to replace Sam Cooke in the Soul Stirrers.
