1961
GYPSY WOMAN * THE IMPRESSIONS * ABC-PARAMOUNT 10241 * USA
This timeless record written by Curtis Mayfield, and sung by him with Fred Cash, Arthur Brooks, Richard Brooks and Sam Gooden, was the groups first for the New York ABC-Paramount label, and was their second hit after For Your Precious Love, it reached number twenty on the Pop charts and number two on the R&B listings. By early 1963, after a disappointing (sales wise) run of follow up recordings, the Brooks brothers decided to leave the Impressions and remain in New York, while Curtis Mayfield, Fred Cash and Sam Gooden returned to Chicago as the trio that were to remain together until Curtis went solo in 1970.
