The Manhattans were George "Smitty" Smith, Winfred "Blue" Lovett, Richard Taylor, Kenneth Kelley and Edward "Sonny" Bivins Smith, they first recorded for the tiny New York independent label Piney in 1962 - Lovett and Bivins had previously recorded Pork Chops as part of the Dorsets for Asnes, another New York Independent. The group had fourteen singles released on Joe Evans and Bob McGhee's Carnival label, another New York independent, between 1964 and 1968, I Bet'cha, a 'catchy' ballad very much in the style of The Tams, was their eighth.
