LOVELY LADIES * THE ADLIBS * FONTANA 584 * UK
This one had me puzzled for years, at first I accepted it as an Ad Libs record as I had no way of knowing otherwise; as back then information, especially discographies, on Soul groups was scant at best. Like other so called 'blue eyed' Soul records : Girl Watcher, The O'Kaysions; Romeo And Juliet, The Reflections, etc, the music and singing of Lovely Ladies was on-the-money Soulful, the A side Neighbor, Neighbor (though it didn't seem to be quite as authentic) was another top Soul record as sung by Jimmy Hughes, also by bearing the legend 'A Vee-Jay recording' and being written by Dan Penn and Rick Hall Lovely Ladies had what seemed like the right pedigree to be the real thing. It was only much later when I bought a copy on Interphon (see below) that things begun to unravel, and the rest is now history as it seems the group were British and named after the Adlib club in London where they performed! Still a good Soulful record though.
