MERCY, MERCY * DON COVAY & THE GOODTIMERS * ROSEMART 801 * USA
Don Covay had been in the music business as a prolific writer and performer for over a decade when this record hit big in the fledgling discothèques in and around Soho London in the early 1960s, where some of the Mods believed it to be his first release, when in fact it was his twenty fifth! He had begun his recording career in the mid 1950s with the Rainbows who were issued on Bobby Robinson's legendary New York independent Red Robin label, and although he stayed with the Rainbows for a few of years, he also recorded solo as both 'Pretty Boy' and Don Covay before teaming up with the Goodtimers in the early 1960s.
