OH MOM (TEACH ME HOW TO UNCLE WILLIE) * THE DAYLIGHTERS * SUE 343 * UK

They started out in the mid 1950s as the Five Sparrows led by Charles "Sparrow" Boyd, with Tony Gideon, Dorsey and George Wood, and Eddie Thomas, after Charles Boyd left they were joined by Levi Moreland, they then called themselves The Velvetiers, then Levi Moreland left and the quartet called themselves The Daylighters, it was then (1959)  they made their first record  Mad House Jump for Narvel Eatmon, who was also known as Cadillac Baby, on his Chicago based Bee and Baby label. They were then joined by Gerald Sims after which they cut Please Come Back To Me as Betty Everett And The Daylighters for the C.J. label in 1960. Ten records, and half a dozen labels, later the group, now: Tony Gideon, Eddie Thomas, Charles Colbert Jr., Curtis Burrell And Ulysses Mcdonald, cut the above Oh Mom (Teach Me How To Uncle Willie) for Charles Colbert's Tip Top label # 2008, another Chicago imprint. Unfortunately Oh Mum was the only record of this group to be issued in the UK, and while the B side is a class record as well, British fans of Soul music had no inclination of their top cuts epically on Tip Top and Nike.
