The Contours alternated between novelty dance numbers which were commercially successful and Soulful cuts like That Day When She Needed Me, which was released as the B side to Can You Jerk Like Me, seen here on the groups only British EP.
Calling themselves Jack Surrell and The Contours they cut their first record for the Detroit based Hob label in 1961; that same year they had Whole Lotta Woman / Come On And Be Mine released on Motown 1008.
