Larry Williams and Johnny Watson first recorded together in 1964 for the Jola label, their next collaboration was three years later in 1967 Mercy, Mercy, Mercy / A Quitter Never Wins for OKeh. Too Late a rousing tale of love in the fast lane, was the second of three single releases they did for OKeh and was originally issued with a picture cover in the US (see below) only it was the more self referential side that was issued as the A side on OKeh. By the time it was issued almost a decade latter in the UK (for the first time) it was Too Late that became the A side. The pair cut one more duet this time for Bell in 1969.
