1964

When the first phase of the Modernist youth movement of the early 1960s came to an end its passing was only really noticed by those who had taken part, the second phase, the Mods, behaved, how could they know otherwise, like nothing had changed. 1964 was a pivotal year that belonged in part to both groups, although it belonged, on balance, more to the Mods. The music of preference for the Mods was of course Soul, which includes Tamla Motown, Rhythm and Blues, and to some extent Ska, but it was the Soul music originating from Chicago, exemplified by the likes of the above record, that was quintessential Mod.

The Radiants were originally a Gospel group, The Golden Gospeltones, although they sung both secular and Gospel, which they finally gave up in 1961, and after changes in personnel, that continued throughout the groups career, the group signed to Chess.

Their first session for Chess in 1962 produced the single Father Knows Best, but it wasn't until November 1964 that the group hit with the above which reached #51 pop and #16 R&B in Billboard.
