WEAR IT ON OUR FACE * THE DELLS * CADET 5599 * USA
Written and produced by Bobby Miller this Dells track came close to being a 'black pride' song at a time when the genre was at its height, most notably with James Brown's Say It Loud I'm Black And I'm Proud. The difference being that Wear It On Our Face was a song that, ostensibly at least, celebrated love not color. And what a celebration, it is a mini tour de force with all sorts of sounds, from the quirky off beat piano intro to the rising violin crescendos and wailing harmonies, all swirling together like a very loose Phil Spector production.
