DON'T BE ANGRY * NAPPY BROWN * SAVOY 1155 * USA
Nappy Brown, or if you would prefer Napoleon Brown Goodson Culp, had his first release on Savoy in 1954 That Man Savoy 1129. Don't Be Angry was his third for the label and his biggest ever. The song released in Febuary 1955 was a nation wide hit by April, with other labels in a bidding war for cover rights, the Bihari brothers eventually securing the rights for six and a half bags. The cover version came out on their Modern imprint by The Cadets (their first on the label). Accompanying Nappy Brown on this cut, recorded NYC, February 1, 1955, are: Budd Johnson, Sam Taylor (ts) Maurice Simon (bars) Howard Biggs (p, arr) Mickey Baker (g) Abie Baker (b) and Dave Bailey (d)
