He was born Delectus Clark in Blytheville, Arkansas in 1938,  in 1941 moved to Chicago, made his recording debut  in 1952 with a group called the Hambone Kids. In 1953 he joined an R&B group the Goldentones, who later changed their name to the Kool Gents and cut a record You Know for Vee Jay, in 1956. They also recorded  for Vee Jay as the Delegates. Dee Clark cut his first solo record  24 Boyfriends for Vee Jay's subsidiary label Falcon in 1957. Dee Clark suffered a heart attack and died on December 7, 1990 at age 52.
