Recorded in New York November 23, 1937 Singin' The Blues Till My Daddy Comes Home / Mama's Gone, Goodbye was Midge Williams' seventh release on the Vocalion imprint, although the previous six had all been issued on the Variety label.

Before recording for Variety / Vocalion with her Jazz Jesters, Midge Williams aka Virginia Louise Williams, had been featured singer with bands including Teddy Wilson, Fats Waller and Miff Mole. Her professional career had begun touring in Japan and China; her first recordings were for Japanese Columbia in 1934. After disbanding her Jazz Jesters in 1938 she joined the Louis Armstrong band.
