UNDER THE BRIDGES OF PARIS * EARTHA KITT * HIS MASTERS VOICE 191 * UK

Ertha Kitt's first British 45 - she had had two earlier releases but both were available only in the 10" 78 rpm format - is a 1931 song by Vincent Scotto, with translated lyrics by Dorcas Cochran. Eartha Kitt sings the song alternating from French to English, and adding a few of her own interjections in French. Surprisingly it was her only chart success in the UK reaching number 7 in February 1955, yet the 'popular' music programs on British state radio in the 1950s seemed to always be playing her records; especially Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend and Just An Old-Fashioned Girl strange that.
