VOODOO VOODOO * LAVERN BAKER * ATLANTIC 2119 * USA
The above has on the label the legend 'supervision: Phil Spector' it's not known whether Lavern Baker or Spector (a ghostly type name) practiced Voodoo, or the song was just an innocent piece of play, but it is certainly taken very seriously by others. The religion of Vodun, commonly known as Voodoo, the word has its origins in an African word for spirit, has been practiced in West Africa, specifically by the Yoruba tribe, for something like six thousand years. Vodun has been actively and at times brutally suppressed by the Christians, Muslims and Marxists alike, though it is now recognized as Benin's official religion since 1996, and is widely practiced in places like Haiti and the American South, and is said to have over sixty million adherents.
