LONG DISTANCE * GARNELL COOPER & THE KINFOLK * JUBILEE 5445 * USA
Released in the UK on London in 1963 Long Distance is the flip side of Green Monkey a nice pastiche of Booker T's Green Onions. Written by Garnell 'Buzz' Cooper and produced by Leiber & Stoller; Long Distance is a Jazzy Soul instrumental that has a solid bass pulsating through the entire track with some searing guitar licks, a rasping, spitting saxophone and a wild Hammond (B3?) organ break.
Long Distance has the period sound that many a creative live band would have played across the nation during the 1960s, unfortunately the track just ends abruptly implying that there is much more to be had; maybe there is an album cut out there with it all on.
