MEXICANO HOP * JAKE PORTER * COMBO 34 * USA
The Combo label was owned and run by Vernon Haven 'Jake' Porter, who's Corn Poke Boogie launched the label in 1951. The imprint ran for some ten years with, possibly, a Jake Porter cut Ko Ko Mo being the last release on the label in 1961. Mexicano' Hop is a Jump Blues style instrumental written by trumpet player and band leader Jake Porter, many of the Combo issues were fine instrumentals often with credited Jazz musicians, like Jack McVea, playing on them; though the label also can lay claim to many superb vocal group records.
