SEXY * MFSB * PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL 3381 * UK
Mother, Father, Sister, Brother, a.k.a. MFSB, were the house band at Philadelphia International, and in his excellent book, The Sound Of Philadelphia, Tony Cummings quotes Kenny Gamble as saying "The session musicians on our records were absolutely vital to the success of the Philly sound". For me to even attempt to list the records that this band played on would be pointless, as they have backed countless recording artists, not only at Philadelphia International, but on many other labels and sessions, from Gospel; The Mighty Clouds Of Joy, to Blues; B. B. King. For some the sound of recordings like Sexy and many others by MFSB that will appear on this site in the future, is to smooth and, perish the thought, Disco! but to me they make rich, positive and uplifting Soul music, that is as elegant and classy as the Big Bands of the 1960s and 40s.
