Born, Wilbert Prysock in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1926, he came to prominence in the Tiny Bradshaw band as the lead tenor sax on the R & B hits Soft and Heavy Juice for King records in the late forties, he signed with Mercury Records, the Chicago based major in early January of 1954, with who he ad many hits until he left them five years later in 1959, by which time Red's honking style sax had had it's day. He went on to record for many small independent labels and playing live with his brother Arthur in a small combo. Red Prysock died July 1993.
