Formed in 1952 and in 1953 they recorded for disc jockey Alan Freed's Champagne label (the only release on the label), Freed became something of a mentor, he changed their name from the Crazy Sounds, and, after a spell with Chance records, he eventually secured them a deal with Chess. The above was originally issued as Chess 1611, this official reissue on the 'Blue Chip' series dates from the late 1960s early 1970s. It is just a coincidence that all four of the labels they first recorded for began with the letters ch.
