NO, NO, NO * BUD JOHNSON AND THE CHANTERS * DE LUXE 6191 * USA
The Chanters were all from the Queens district of New York, their first release was My, My Darling in 1958 on De Luxe 6162, then came Row Your Boat on De Luxe 6166 which was followed by Angle Darling # 6172, then at the close of 1958 De Luxe released No, No, No with the flip Over The Rainbow on # 6177. This up-tempo R&B cut did about the same as the groups previous three releases on the label i.e. not much, all should have faired better; the group left De Luxe and with a change of singer cut one record for Craft in 1959 as The Voices Five. And that was it as far as recording goes for The Chanters Then in 1961 their No, No, No was getting spins on Times Square Records 'oldies show' and De Luxe re-released the record with a new flip I Make This Pledge on # 6191, and then another of theirs Row Your Boat, again with a new flip, on 6194. Finally, in 1963, No, No, No was released again coupled with Row Your Boat on De Luxe 6200 (see below) and this time it entered the Pop charts and spent some twelve weeks there, but unfortunately the group had long since disbanded.
