1958

SO FINE * THE FIESTAS * LONDON AMERICAN 8870 * UK

Written by Jessie Belvin and first recorded by the Sheiks in 1954, this version by The Fiestas, a group from Newark, New Jersey consisting of Tommy Bullock, Eddie Morris, Sam Ingalls and Preston Lane, was their debut release on Old Town #1062. So Fine can be thought of as a precocious or precursory Soul recording as the broken rhythm and laid back beat stands it apart from the smoother more blended Doo Wop sounds of the big city recordings of the time.

Released in the US in November 1958, it was released in the UK six months later in May 1959, then again in August 1971, this time with a different B side Broken Heart from 1962. It was to be the only record by the group released in the UK.
