YOUR CASH AIN'T NOTHING BUT TRASH * THE CLOVERS * ATLANTIC 1035 * USA
The Clovers were from Washington D. C. their first record Yes Sir, That's My Baby for the Rainbow label had lead singer John "Buddy" Bailey, Harold Winley on bass, baritone Harold Lucas, and tenor Matthew McQuater, with guitarist Bill Harris. In 1954 ex-Domino Charlie White had taken over from lead singer Buddy Bailey, who had been drafted in the army. The group signed with Atlantic and their first release in 1951 Don't You Know was an instant success selling over 300,000 copies, and reaching the coveted No 1 spot on the R&B charts. This set the trend for the group, who became the model for many other R&B groups to follow, and they enjoyed many other hits in the subsequent years; although the above record didn't sell as well as some of their previous hits.
British R&B fans were to get a small taste, on 45 (see below) of the fine music that was being recorded in the US in the early 1950s over a decade later with the first release of the Your Cash Ain't Nothing But Trash in 1968!
