SHAKE IT * ALTON ELLIS AND THE FLAMES * DOCTOR BIRD 1055 * UK

The Flames were originally his brother Leslie Ellis, David "Baby G" Gordon and Ronnie, this line up changed and was later augmented by Lloyd Charmers and Winston Jarrett. After cutting his musical teeth with Studio 1, Alton Ellis, because of dissatisfaction over payments, moved to Dodd's then great rival Duke Reid, where with some top Ska tunes he became a number one vocalist, much to his former boss's chagrin. He also went on during the Rock Steady era to make Duke Reid's Treasure Isle label, for many, with tunes like the above, the best in sound. But this was short lived as Coxsone managed to win back Alton again and  while at Studio 1 he was the undisputed King of Rock Steady.
