Written by Leonard Dillon aka The Ethiopian, prolific song writer, singer and founder of the vocal trio The Ethiopians. Leonard Dillon first record as Jack Sparrow for Coxsone Dodd in 1966; it was after this that he met up with Stephen Taylor and Aston Morris with whom he formed The Ethiopians.
The Whip was first released by Sonja Pottinger on her Gay Feet label, it is essentially a dance record Leonard Dillon in the excellent interview he gave with Peter I in February 2004, "in those days you had to create a sound, you had to have your own sound. You have to make songs and make a dance after to make the song selling. You have to make a dance out of the song, you understan".
