HOTEL BLUES * EDDIE BOYD * CHESS 1660 * USA
A short narrative from Eddie Boyd about a fantasy for a hotel chambermaid that ends in paranoia, my guess is this self penned Blues is based on real events in his life. Piano player and vocalist Eddie Boyd was born Stovall Mississippi in 1914 and after moving to Chicago and backing many of the great Blues men like: Sonny Boy Williamson, Tampa Red and Jazz Gillum, he cut his first record I Had To Let Her Go for RCA Victor in 1947. His first Chess release was Cool Kind Treatment in 1952, Hotel Blues - seen here in 78 RPM format - was his twelfth release for the label.
