I DONE WOKE UP * LOUISIANA RED * SUE 337 * UK
Louisiana Red a.k.a. Iverson Minter, was dealt a rough hand at the start of his life, with his mother dying a week after his birth, and his father dying when he was quite young; lynched by the Ku Klux Klan. Having spent most of his early life in orphanages he started playing guitar around the age of eleven while living with his aunt in Pittsburgh. His first record Soon One Morning was released on Checker 753 as by Rocky Fuller, a name suggested by his idol Muddy Waters. His next recording was issued c1953 as by Playboy Fuller, after a long period away from the recording studio, including a four year stint in Korea, he recorded the above I Done Woke Up for the small New York independent Atlas records in 1957 as, for the first time, Louisiana Red, a name he acquired from his grandfather, "I decided to go with a name--a nickname--my grandfather started calling me years back after I preferred to eat my oyster balls with Louisiana Red hot sauce".
