ALLEY PANG * DON DRUMMOND & THE SKATALITES * SKA BEAT 187 * UK
More commonly associated with Coxsone Dodd's Studio One, Don Drummond and the Skatalites are heard on this Treasure Isle recording, cut for Duke Reid. An 'A' class Ska track that electrifies from the start, with Lloyd Knibbs 'singing' high hats, and Lloyd Brevette's driving base line, the first solo is Don Drummond, the second is Roland Alphonso. According to Lloyd Knibbs "Ally Pang is the name of obeah woman of Annie Palmer, who was the white witch of Rose Hall, Ally Pang was three feet tall!" And you can't argue with that.
