HAUNTED ROOM * BUSTERS ALL STARS * BLUE BEAT 314 * UK
This record has the word 'class' written on it's center, and that's just what it is. Even though this cut strays into the novelty, or experimental, area, the overall sound is a solid and classical Ska instrumental. The music starts of, anticipating Joe Gibbs by several years, with the sound of a Cuckoo clock (I'm not sure what that has to do with a 'haunted room') and then plunges into a rich, thick and creamy Ska, with a delicious topping of the drummers singing high hats, there's a scintillating and original guitar riff and a terrific sax solo, followed by another hot trumpet break, during which time interspersed throughout there's a 'wailing' sound, very much the same as used in a fair ground 'ghost ride', to give it the haunted effect.
