BRIXTON, LEWISHAM * TONY TOMAS * ISLAND 059 * UK

A pleasant little ditty on this British production, with Tony Thomas's only solo effort released on Island, the A side has him in a duet with Louise (?) I have no idea who Tony Thomas is, but Brixton and Lewisham are both areas of South London where Jamaican immigrants settled in large numbers during the 1950s and 1960s, one consequence of which was two (relatively) famous Ska and Rock Steady clubs opened in these locations. These were The El Partido in Lewisham and The Ram Jam in Brixton, http://www.georgwa.demon.co.uk/el.htm both were catering primarily for the West  Indian community, but a sizable proportion of white youth also used them.
