EXODUS * ERNEST RANGLIN * ISLAND 128 * GB
Exodus is the name of the second book of Moses in the bible, and in biblical terms the idea of Exodus is; from Egypt to the sanctuary. This idea has been used in various ways throughout the centuries, (it was a useful strategy for contemporary artists during the 1980s and 90s). A contemporary interpretation of it's value may be found in the book Empire, written by Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri. Here's a partial explanation, by Negri, of their concept from a 'nettime' discussion shortly after the books publication in 2000: "By Exodus we want to indicate the form of struggle that is based not in direct opposition but in a kind of struggle by subtraction-a refusal of power, a refusal of obedience."
There's a Robert Marley cut on the flip side, he also went on to recorded a version of Exodus.
