OH JEAN * BERESFORD RICKETTS * DICE 12 * UK

Produced by Laurel Aitken, Oh Jean with a nice prolonged saxophone break, otherwise it is a very British sounding 'Blue Beat' recording with the simple plonking piano and un complicated back beat which is characteristic of most British productions of the period, as opposed to the inventive and complex rhythms that were being laid down in Jamaica at the time. The elusive vocalist Beresford Ricketts had started out recording with Coxsone Dodd in 1959 along with many of the pioneers in Jamaican music, yet his name is, by-and-large, forgotten today.
