SCRAP IRON * DON DRUMMOND * BLACK SWAN 406 * UK
A Rolando & Powie release Jamaica, which, as all those familiar with the imprints of Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd will know, is what has become to be known generically as a Studio One recording. This is the legendary trombonist Don Drummond before the advent of Ska, with it's jaunty bounce the beat is what might have been called 'Blue Beat' in Britain at the time of release, but overall the instrumental is closer to a laid back shuffle or R&B boogie from the West Coast of America than to the driving energy laden cuts that in a year or so were to be known as Ska.
