Born on December 21, 1953 in Miami, Florida, by the age of 13 Betty Wright was singing backing vocals in her family gospel group The Echoes of Joy. Clean Up Woman was her tenth record for the Alston label, it reached to number 2 on the R&B and number 6 on the Pop charts and eventually sold over four million copies. Miami briefly basked in the funk spotlight with Betty's hit, and The Beginning Of The End's Funky Nassau five issues earlier than Betty's, on the same label.
