GIVE YOUR BABY A STANDING OVATION * THE DELLS * CADET 5696 * USA

With only one change in their line up in over four decades The Dells can claim some consistency. Starting out as the The El-Rays; Johnny Funches, Marvin Junior, Verne Allison, Mickey McGill, Lucius McGill and Chuck Barksdale, their first record was for Checker Darling I Know / Christine in 1954. Minus Lucius McGill, they became known as The Dells and signed for Vee Jay in 1955, and soon after had a major R&B hit, Oh, What A Night  in 1956. The Dells are still performing and recording today, with such milestones in their long career as working with Dinah Washington on her last Mercury Album Tears And Laughter in 1962, and the above beauty from the early 1970s.
