Laura Lee started out singing Gospel (with The Meditation Singers) and has since gone back to her Gospel roots, and in the interim she sang some gritty, raw and powerful Soul. She was born in Chi Town but based herself over in Detroit, where she recorded her first records on Ric-Tic, I need It, was her first of two releases for the Invictus imprint. Written by the Holland brothers, and Richard Wylie this raw, frank and forthright cut (back then many would still have had a problem with such sentiments from a woman!) is given a powerful and convincing performance by this totally undervalued Soul star.
