1975
IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME * YVONNE FAIR * TAMLA MOTOWN 1013 * UK
Originally recorded and released in February 1963 by Kim Weston on Tamla 54076, it was covered by Gladys Knight & The Pips in 1968, then in 1975 Yvonne Fair cut this power house version which had the event she sings of been real I'm sure it would have stopped the wedding stone dead. The British release seen above could be seen as the first release as it came out in November 1975, while the American copy, on Motown 1384, wasn't released until January 1976 with a different B side.
N.B. This is not the same song recorded by Ray Charles in 1954.
