Allen LaMar "Al" Wilson, a native of Meridian, Mississippi, first recorded in 1959, along with his brother Eddie, with The Jewels, who became The Rollers, he stayed with the Rollers until 1966 when the group disbanded.
His first solo record was for the Soul City label label in 1967, it was The Snake his third for the label that brought him to the attention of many British Soul music fans, but it was the H. B. Barnum arranged Soulful Show And Tell that gave him his first million seller earning him a gold disc.
