THE SOUL OF A BLACK MAN * MACEO & THE MACKS * PEOPLE 647 * USA

The 600 series was coming to an end on James Browns People label when this B side to Cross The Track was released, two different records were issued on this number, one had the above while the other had Boogie 'n Twist, both had Cross The Track, and both were by Maceo and The Macks. I first heard this record in the mid eighties and the way Maceo (Parker) comes in with his saxophone and the note he plays after James Brown finishes his 'Rap' struck me as one of the most incredibly profound sound on a musical instrument I had heard in music, ever, and I still think so.
